Methenamine Hippurate Tablets, USP

Methenamine hippurate tablets, USP, are an antibacterial medication used to prevent and treat urinary tract infections (UTIs), particularly those caused by certain types of bacteria.

Methenamine works by converting to formaldehyde in the urine, which creates an acidic environment that inhibits the growth of bacteria in the urinary tract. Hippuric acid, which is combined with methenamine in the formulation, helps to sustain the acidic pH needed to effectively prevent bacterial growth in the urinary tract.
