    Primaquine phosphate tablets, USP, are a medication primarily used to prevent and treat malaria caused by certain types of Plasmodium parasites.

    Primaquine is part of the class of medications called antimalarials and is particularly effective against the liver stage of the malaria parasite. It is commonly used in combination with other antimalarial drugs for the treatment of malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium ovale.

    Additionally, primaquine is used for the prevention of malaria in individuals traveling to or living in regions where malaria is prevalent.
